We Have Nothing to Fear but Fear......and Ducks?

Wazzup ya'll? Sorry I didn't post yesterday (I was preparing to take my driver's exam, which I failed). But not by that much, though. Only 5 points. So hopefully when I take it agian nex week, I'll pass it. But my driver's test made me remember my irrational fear of failing. Yes, I said it; I'm actually afraid of failing. Now, some of you may be saying "can you really be afraid of failing?" And my answer is yes. In fact, their is an actual term for it. Atychiphobia- Fear of failure (not that I can actually pronounce that). It's actually really bad. It made me freak out while I was taking my driver's test, it makes me afraid to fail tests, and it's probably one of the reasons why I have problem's asking out girls (but that's another topic for another day).

Their are many different types of phobias. Claustraphobia, the fear of enclosed spaces. Hydrophobia, the fear of water. Arachnaphobia, the fear of spiders. And my personal favorite, anatidaephobia-the fear that somewhere, somehow, a duck is watching you. And a good majority of these fears are irrational (I know mine is).

My point being, I know my fear is irrational; So what if I fail a test, it's not the end of the world. But that's not how I feel at the time. I'm sure someday, I'll get over this fear (probably when I'm in college or something). But for now it sucks. If anybody can help me, it'd be greatly appreciated. But for now, I leave you with this question. What are some of your phobias?

  6. Yeah man, I used to have that fear really bad actually (the fear of failure); it haunted me like a bitch for just about all 9th grade, and still shows up from time to time. As far as getting over it, idk it's just gone away with time for me. fear never seems to be able to be gotten rid of through rational thought... v.v

  8. I recall in Old Yeller, rabies was called hydrophobia. I was going to buy a book on phobias, but I was afraid it wouldn't help me.

The only thing I'm really afraid of is heights, I think. I mean, I'm afraid of failure, but not to the point that it is a phobia.

  9. Oh, and of course rational thought doesn't help much. It's probably for the same reason nightmares are scary no matter how silly they are.
